This is a walkthrough to the bandit wargame made by OverTheWire. It can be found on their website at https://overthewire.org/wargames/bandit
Goals: find the password for the next level and log in as the next user
Given information: Password is in the “-” file
Step 1
After logging into bandit1 using the password from the previous level, we use an “ls” command to list all files in the home directory.
We can see the file we want clearly displayed.
Step 2
simply using the “cat” command will not work on this file, as it has an unusual name. To circumvent this, we specify the entire file path of the designated file to make sure the computer knows what we are referring to. A dot is used to specify the working directory, which at this point is the home directory, and we separate the file path by slashes.
We have found the password to the next level. We can now exit our connection with the server and log in with the next user, bandit2.
