Mixed Fruit Smoothie

I was so excited this week to post, because I made my own recipe for this week. Summer is coming soon so I thought I would do something cool and fruity. Smoothies were the first thing in my mind, because there are millions of different kinds.

I did tons of research, googling what you can put in a smoothie, what kinds of fruit should you add, and what you can add to thicken smoothies. In the end I found that you can really add whatever you like, make it whatever consistency you prefer, even mix many diffent kinds of fruit to get a smoothie that is perfect for you.

In this recipe, I used oatmeal to help thicken it up a little. When you put oatmeal in a smoothie you grind it into a fine powder in the blender before adding all the other ingredients. You have to make sure that it is really fine or you will get weird gritty texture.

It should be more of a powder than this

Mixed Fruit Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 2 cups juice of your choice (I used apple)
  • 2 cups mixed fruit (i used a mix of pineapple, strawberry, mango, and peach)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt of your choice (I recommend your favorite fruit yogurt)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup powdered oatmeal
  • 12 ice cubes (only use 6 if you are using frozen fruit)

Powder the oatmeal in the blender. Add all of the other ingredients and blend until smooth. I find that if you prefer fruit chunks in your drink, I blend it for a little less time. Garnish with fresh strawberries and serve.

Makes 4(ish) cups

  2. That looks delicious! I have smoothies every day but I put spinach and carrots in them. My kids think they look like barf. My kids are so rude. 😉

Actually spinach and carrots can be really good in smoothies. My mother used to make an extremely bitter chocolate smoothie. It was healthy and all of us kids thought it was to bitter, but she liked it. It just goes to show that working hard to find a smoothie that you enjoy is a hard but worthwhile task.

i loved it so much!!!!!!!! it was delicious!!!

  4. We had to wait until after we did our grocery shopping before we could make this because we had no apple juice in the house. So finally, last evening we got to make your recipe. We recently purchased 30 pounds of frozen strawberries really cheaply, so that was nice. I have to confess I added a small amount of sweetener to ours, otherwise I made it just like you said. We both enjoyed our smoothies. Thanks for sharing!

Adding sweetener is perfectally fine. You may have used a less sweet yogurt and that may be the reason that you needed to make it a little sweeter. Or maybe you just prefer it that way. I am glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for the feedback.
