5 Reasons Why Rocket League Is The Greatest Video-Game Ever Created

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 4 years, you probably have heard of a game entitled Rocket League. With the game approaching its 5-year anniversary, the game has amassed over 10 million purchases, a peak of almost 600k concurrent players, and has received many awards, including “Best Sports Game of E3” and “Fan Favorite Sports/Racing Game”. It has also been nominated for a large number of bigger awards. Basically, Rocket League is a massively popular online multiplayer game that, even after almost 5 years, continues to be one of the most popular videogames on the market. I personally have played around 1200 hours in the game, and I can say without a doubt that it is the best game that I have ever played. Here is why.

1. It’s easy to grasp…

Everyone knows how to play soccer. The objective is to get the ball into the goal. When you first enter Rocket League, it shows you the car, goal, and ball. Already, without any explanation, you know your objective. Get that ball into that goal with that car. Now you just need to figure out how…

2. But hard to master

Once you know WHAT to do, now you need to learn how to do it. This is where the difficulty of the game comes in. When you first jump in, you have no idea what you are doing, but it is SO easy to learn and get better in this game. Every second you spend playing Rocket League, you are getting better. There is an infinitely high skill ceiling, and there is always room to grow. On top of all that, with the ranking system, you see tangible results as you get better at the game and better than the people you play against.

3. Variety

Source

Rocket League has a huge amount of game modes and different ways to play, so you never get bored. There is an “unranked” section and a “ranked” section, one having no consequences whether you win or lose, and the other letting you climb the ranks. The ranked aspect is much more competitive, while unranked is used in the higher ranks as more of a way to warm up or just chill out. The three main game modes are 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. There are also a few bonus game modes, such as Hoops (basketball hoops instead of goals), Snowday (puck instead of a ball), Rumble (different game-changing powerups), and 4v4. There are also special event game modes that emerge during different times throughout the year. If this wasn’t enough, they provide the option to create your own game mode, giving you control over every mutator setting you could ever ask for so that you can create your own private match with your personalized settings.

4. Customizations

Source

For those of you who are into customizing your character, don’t worry. Rocket League has you covered. With 86 different car bodies available, thousands of different decals, wheels, toppers, boosts, trails, goal explosions available, and options to paint and even change paint type, you will never get bored with customizing and you can express yourself and make the best car ever.

5. It’s just plain fun

Source

The title says it all. The satisfaction you get when you hit the ball doesn’t compare to anything else. In the beginning, hitting the ball is the best thing that ever happened. Get a little better, and hitting it in the goal is the best thing that ever happened. Eventually, shots that would be impossible for anyone else will be easy for you, and there is so much fun in that. The amount of control you have over the car makes it fun. The perfection of the physics make it fun. The way the crowd goes crazy when you score a goal and fill the arena with the sound of the ball exploding as it goes through the net makes it fun.

And that is why I truly believe that Rocket League is the greatest video-game of all time. It is unlike anything else in the world and that combined with the fact that it is so flawlessly executed makes it truly amazing.

  4. I am really impressed with your writing, AJ. I’m not likely to play a video game because I’m an old lady, but the English teacher in me loves the way you put this together. 🙂
